- Yummy Eggs Benny!
- Helpful and efficient staff
- Reasonably priced
At the end of February, I had a highly anticipated day off work. The kids were at school and I was on my own with an unfamiliar and alien concept – free time! After being healthy and going for a swim, I decided that I should indulge myself and grab some brunch.
I was in Gungahlin and opted to try out Lagom. I’d been there for coffee before but never food, and at 10:30am on a Tuesday morning, it was pretty empty. Getting a table was easy, although I have regularly seen the place rammed on weekends, and I sat at the top level so that I could people watch through the large windows. There is outdoor seating but it was a bit chilly out for me!

The space is nice and airy with lots of natural sunlight in the top level, and a large colourful mural of a coffee mug. The lower level has clean tiled walls, orange booth-style seating and the counter. There’s lots of greenery and backlit mirrors making it a bright and cheerful space.
I had a look over the menu, noting that they did have gluten free options marked before heading to the counter to order. The staff were friendly and when I ordered my salmon eggs benedict and medium skim decaf flat white, the staff were happy to talk to the kitchen about my coeliac requirements – confirming the toast wouldn’t be cross contaminated. I paid $24 and returned to my seat.
I didn’t have to wait long at all for my coffee which was really easy to drink and my food came pretty quickly afterwards. I have to say, I was really impressed with my salmon eggs benedict. The bread was slightly seedy with a crispy crunchy crust on it that was wholly satisfying to bite into. The salmon was nice and fresh, and the eggs exploded when I cut into them, oozing bright orange yolk! The real star of the dish was the hollandaise though. It was rich and buttery and had a mild spice flavour that made me think of chai tea. It was really tasty and enjoyable.

I judge cafes based on their Hollandaise sauce and I’m quite happy to say Lagom is a hit! The food was really yummy and the price was reasonable. I’ll definitely be returning for the eggs benny again!
