What a year it’s been!
The first half of 2019 was spent pregnant and exhausted. I’m not one of those women who ‘glows’ during pregnancy, and eating out was out of the question with the all-day morning sickness, horrible indigestion and the sheer discomfort of being more than 10 kilos heavier!
For the second half of the year, I was learning how to parent two instead of one child! With the new baby, Bel, and Milly the threenager, the idea of heading out for a bite to eat barely crossed my mind. Managing two children in a restaurant comes with its own pitfalls – eating one handed while balancing a baby that’s attempting to grab your fork, pleading with the big one stop dancing round and please just sit down and eat, plus explaining the standard coeliac requirements to staff while one, or both children squawk, squeal and whine!
Ahhhh, Parenthood!
On top of this any food experience that I would’ve liked to write about, simply couldn’t happen this year as finding the time and quiet to sit at the laptop just hasn’t been possible.
2019 has been a year of ups and downs for the GBMG family, but ultimately, it’s been grand as we welcomed our new addition and learnt how to be four instead of three. The changes to my life have resulted in a quiet year for Get Behind Me Gluten but I’m hoping that 2020 will look a bit different!
Like every New Year, I’m setting myself a few resolutions. There’s the usual stuff – read more, lose weight, blah blah blah – but most importantly I’m setting myself the task to write!
Now that the Girls are getting bigger, I’m hoping for a bit more down time for some selfcare and GBMG is going to be a feature! I’ll be aiming to produce at least one post a month and I’m looking out for recommendations for cafes and restaurants to review – so contact me with any suggestions on Facebook or through the GBMG web page.
And so, GBMG is waving off 2019 with a tub of Quality Street, gluten free mince pies and the hope for 5 minutes peace and quiet to sit and write.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
